St. Mary's Health Center
St.
Mary's Health Center is a community outreach of the St.
Joseph/Candler Hospital System in collaboration with Armstrong
Atlantic State University's Department of Nursing. The Health Center
provides primary care for uninsured, financially eligible adults
19-64 years of age who live or work in Chatham County. Primary
care services are provided by nurse practitioners and physicians
as well as volunteer providers and staff.
St.
Mary's Health Center also provides clinical education experiences
for a variety of health professions students, including undergraduate
and graduate nursing students from AASU. Students participate in
community based care of a number of acute and chronic health conditions
as well as interacting in health education and promotion activities.
While on site, students are exposed to health informatics and the
electronic medical record utilized to document care.
Clients may be referred to other community resources or providers.
Services at St. Mary's Community Center are also utilized.
Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) funding was made to AASU's Department of Nursing in 2007. This funding provides support for staffing, equipment, supplies and educational activities.
